Bitcoin Demand Recovery Defies ETF Outflows
Bitcoin Demand improves despite ETF outflows as futures activity rebounds and price resilience signals broader market participation.
- Bitcoin Demand remained resilient as prices advanced despite Bitcoin and Ether ETFs recording notable daily net outflows.
- Futures demand rebounded after June’s sharp contraction, while ETF flows reflected temporary institutional positioning changes.
- Bitcoin and Ether prices strengthened even as institutional inflows paused, pointing toward broader sources of market demand.
Bitcoin Demand remained resilient as institutional fund flows softened during early July. Recent market data showed cryptocurrency prices advancing despite ETF outflows, reflecting broader participation beyond traditional investment vehicles.
ETF Flows Diverge From Market Performance
Kyren noted that institutional flows and price action recently moved in different directions. The observation followed fresh U.S. spot ETF flow data. Both Bitcoin and Ether nevertheless posted price gains.
Bitcoin ETFs recorded a $95.3 million net outflow on Thursday. Ether ETFs also registered $52.2 million in redemptions. Those withdrawals marked Ethereum’s first negative session during July.
Earlier sessions displayed stronger institutional participation across both digital assets. Bitcoin funds attracted $224 million on July 2. Another $266 million entered Bitcoin ETFs on July 6.
Ether funds also maintained consistent inflows before the latest reversal. Daily additions reached $70 million on July 8. The following session interrupted that positive streak with fresh outflows.
Demand Indicators Reveal A Broader Market Picture
Cryptoquant data tracked Bitcoin’s spot demand and perpetual futures demand. The chart covered activity between January and early July 2026. Price movement accompanied changing participation across both markets.
Bitcoin traded above $90,000 during early January. Demand gradually weakened alongside the subsequent market correction. Both spot and futures participation declined during the initial selloff.
Conditions improved between late February and May. Total demand recovered steadily as futures participation strengthened. Bitcoin simultaneously climbed from roughly $66,000 toward the $80,000 region.
June produced the sharpest deterioration across demand metrics. Futures activity turned deeply negative as deleveraging accelerated. Total demand also reached its weakest reading during the observed period.
Recovery Emerges Despite Institutional Pause
Although demand weakened sharply during June, Bitcoin avoided another major breakdown. Prices stabilized around the low-$60,000 range before recovering. That resilience contrasted with deteriorating futures positioning.
Toward early July, futures demand began improving from deeply negative levels. Total demand also recovered noticeably during the same period. Spot demand remained comparatively softer than derivatives activity.
The combination of improving demand and ETF withdrawals presents contrasting market signals. Institutional positioning slowed while broader participation supported prices. Other market participants continued absorbing available supply.
Kyren’s observations align with the broader demand data presented across both charts. ETF flows remain valuable indicators of institutional behavior. However, Bitcoin demand continues drawing support from multiple sources beyond fund inflows alone.
